A Mariña Lucense

As is often the case with a lot of historic or natural districts, there are no set limits to restrict a place like A Mariña, an area with complex natural and social relationships.
The district is composed of 16 municipalities which take up the north of the province of Lugo: Alfoz, Barreiros, Burela, Cervo, Foz, Lourenzá, Mondoñedo, Ourol, A Pontenova, Ribadeo, Riotorto, Trabada, O Valadouro, O Vicedo, Viveiro and Xove, comprising a total of 1462 km2 and 78.856 inhabitants as of 2005.
The elevated internal diversity coupled the notable physical attributes, human and economic, adds to its tourist appeal. There is a sense of duality present, two "Mariñas" very different from each other, physically as well as economically. The coastal Marina and the Interior one.
This varied coastline, full of estuaries and areas of spectacular cliffs and sandy coves is connected to the coastal mountains through valleys that merit some importance. They have allowed agricultural and proto-industrial activity, as well as being home to natural and scenic richness.
The coastal mountains although not very high are full of treasures, formations, valleys of glacial origin and extensive peat lands.
